Title: Amends Criteria for Classifying Property as Agricultural Land

Vote to pass a bill that amends criteria for classifying property as agricultural land.

Highlights:

  • Defines “agricultural land” as land that consists of a single parcel of at least 20 acres of land and its “principal” use is 1 or more of the following (Sec. 1):
    • Raising and harvesting crops, timber, or fruit trees;
    • Rearing and feeding farm livestock, poultry, fish, or nursery stock; or
    • Producing bees, apiary products, or horticulture.
  • Expands the definition of agricultural land to include woodland, wasteland, and pasture land held and operated in conjunction with agricultural land under common ownership (Sec 1).
  • Specifies that agricultural land is land that meets at least 1 of the following criteria (Sec. 1):
    • The land owner must derive at least $1,000 of gross income from agricultural use of the land by the owner; or
    • The land consists of a single parcel of at least 20 acres or is part of management unit of at least 40 acres.
  • Specifies that public shooting areas and game production areas owned and managed by the Department of Game, Fish and Parks are to be assessed and taxed as agricultural land (Sec. 1).

NOTE: THIS BILL REQUIRED A MAJORITY OF ELECTED MEMBERS TO VOTE IN THE AFFIRMATIVE IN ORDER FOR IT TO PASS.
