Vote to pass a bill that establishes a tax credit for families who adopt a qualified child, effective beginning the 2014 taxable year.

Highlights:

  • Establishes a 1-time tax credit of $1,000 per child who is adopted through a “private intrastate adoption” or for the adoption of a “qualified foster child” (Sec. 1). 
  • Defines “private intrastate adoption” as an adoption through a private agency in which the birth mother, the child, and the adoptive parents reside in Alabama (Sec. 1). 
  • Defines “qualified foster child” as any individual who is in the permanent legal custody of the Alabama Department of Human Resources or has been in an approved foster home for the purpose of adoption (Sec. 1).
