Title: Authorizes Annual Stipends for Certain Teachers

Highlights:

  • Specifies that after beginning employment with an “eligible school” and submitting an application, an eligible teacher may receive a stipend for each of the first 2 school years after the teacher begins employment with the school (Secs. 5 & 6).
  • Defines “eligible school” as a public or charter school that is in either of the 2 lowest state categories or designations of school performance and academic growth (Sec. 1). 
  • Requires a teacher to meet the following conditions in order to be considered eligible and receive a stipend (Sec. 4):
    • The teacher must work in a public school or charter school that is not considered eligible under this bill before applying to an eligible school; 
    • The teacher must receive a designation of “effective” or “highly effective” on his or her most recent performance evaluation; and
    • The teacher must complete each school year at the eligible school.
