Title: Increases the Minimum Wage
Vote Smart's Synopsis:
Vote to pass a bill that increases the minimum hourly wage.
Highlights:
- Increases the minimum wage from $8 per hour to the following amounts (Secs. 1-3 & 6-8):
- $9 per hour, effective January 1, 2014;
- $10 per hour, effective January 1, 2015; and
- $11 per hour, effective January 1, 2016.
- Increases the minimum wage annually by the percentage increase of the consumer price index (CPI) for the previous 12 months and rounded up to the nearest $0.05 (Sec. 4).
- Requires the minimum wage to be at least $0.50 higher than the federal minimum wage (Sec. 5).
