Vote on a motion to invoke cloture on a bill that extends unemployment compensation benefits and services.
- Extends the expiration date for the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Program from January 1, 2014 to April 1, 2014 (Sec. 2).
- Extends the expiration date of funds appropriated by the Treasury for reemployment services and reemployment eligibility assessment activities from the end of fiscal year 2014 to the end of fiscal year 2015 (Sec. 4).
NOTE: INVOKING CLOTURE REQUIRES A 3/5 MAJORITY OF THE SENATE. IT IS NOT A VOTE ON THE PASSAGE OF THE PIECE OF LEGISLATION, BUT LIMITS FURTHER DEBATE TO 30 HOURS. CLOTURE IS TYPICALLY USED TO END A FILIBUSTER. A FAILED CLOTURE VOTE OFTEN PREVENTS THE LEGISLATION FROM EVER COMING TO A VOTE.
