Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that prohibits the application of foreign law in courts, effective September 1, 2013.

Highlights:

• Prohibits the application of “foreign law”, the recognition of foreign judgments, and the foreign transference of any legal proceeding from any court case or interpretation of a contract that involves divorce, child custody, child support, or alimony if the result is a violation of an individual’s constitutional rights (Sec. 1).

• Defines “foreign law” as a law, rule, resolution, legal code, legal system, or any component of a legal system established and applied in a foreign venue or forum (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill do not limit the rights of a natural individual to voluntarily enter into a contract or specific waiver (Sec. 1).
