Vote to pass a bill that extends the voter registration period through the end of the early voting period.
Highlights:
Extends the voter registration period to 5:00 P.M. on the Friday preceding any primary or general election, whereas existing law specified that registration must close on the third Tuesday (Secs. 5 & 12).
Specifies that for the voter registration period for any primary or general election, an individual may register to vote only by completing 1 of the following actions (Sec. 5):
Appearing in person at the office of the county clerk;
Appearing in person at a designated county facility; or
Registering by computer if the county clerk has established a system to authorize voters to vote by computer.
Extends the voter registration period to 5:00 P.M. on the fourth day preceding any recall or special election, whereas existing law specified that registration must close on the third Saturday (Secs. 5 & 12).
Authorizes a registered voter to elect to receive a sample ballot by electronic mail (Sec. 6.5).
Requires a city clerk to issue a ballot for early voting to an individual who registers to vote in person during the early voting period and who makes an in-person request to vote early (Sec. 11).
