Vote to pass a bill that classifies a crime that is motivated by an individual's gender identity or expression as a felony.

Highlights:

• Expands the classification of crimes that are based on an individual’s actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation to include “gender identity or expression” as felonies or gross misdemeanors (Secs. 3 & 4).

• Defines “gender identity or expression” as the gender-related identity, appearance, expression, or behavior of an individual regardless of the individual’s assigned sex at birth (Sec. 1).

• Expands the authorization for an individual who suffered a crime that was based on his or her actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation to include gender identity or expression to sue for the recovery of actual and punitive damages (Sec. 6).

• Expands the Central Repository Program for Reporting Crimes that provides evidence of prejudice based on race, color, religion, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation to include gender identity or expression (Sec. 7).
