Vote to pass a bill that requires restaurant chains to disclose calorie counts.

Highlights:

• Requires an owner or operator of a restaurant who meets the following criteria to comply with certain federal regulations including, but not limited to, the disclosure of nutrient content (Sec. 1):
• The restaurant is part of a chain with 15 or more locations in the state;
• The restaurant is part of a chain with 20 or more locations; or 
• The restaurant elects to be subject to the federal regulations. 

• Authorizes the following individuals to enforce the provisions of this bill (Sec. 1):
• The officers and agents of the Divisions of Public and Behavioral Health of the Department of Health and Human Services;
• The officers and agents of local boards of health; or
• The appropriate local law enforcement agency. 

• Classifies a violation of the provisions of this bill as a misdemeanor (Sec. 2).

• Establishes the following penalties for a restaurant owner or operator who violates the provisions of this bill within the previous 5 years (Sec. 2):
• A fine between $50 and $500 for a first offense;
• A fine between $100 and $1,000 for a second offense; and
• A fine between $250 and $2,500 for a third or subsequent offense.
