Vote to pass a bill that establishes the Metropolitan Transit District and authorizes certain counties to elect to be affiliated with the district.

Highlights:

• Establishes the Metropolitan Transit District to construct, purchase, or acquire public transportation services and to operate those services (Sec. 22).

• Requires the board of the Metropolitan Transit District to develop and implement a long term plan to ensure an efficient system of public transportation in the district (Sec. 22).

• Authorizes any of the following counties to propose membership in a Metropolitan Transit District through a public referendum (Sec. 22):
• Boone County;
• Delaware County;
• Hamilton County;
• Hancock County;
• Hendricks County;
• Johnson County;
• Madison County;
• Marion County;
• Morgan County; and
• Shelby County.

• Requires that the county propose in the public referendum the question of whether or not the county can impose a tax rate increase of up to 0.3% to fund the Metropolitan Transit District (Sec. 22).
