Vote to pass a bill that prohibits texting while driving.
Highlights:
Prohibits an individual from using a wireless communication device to write, send, or read a written message while operating a motor vehicle, except in any of the following circumstances (Sec. 1):
The vehicle is lawfully parked;
The device is used to contact an emergency response vehicle;
The device is used to write, read, select, or enter a telephone number or name for the purpose of making or receiving a telephone call; or
The individual is using voice-operated or hands-free technology.
Classifies a violation of this bill as a Class 2 misdemeanor (Sec. 1).
Prohibits municipalities from adopting or enforcing ordinances or policies that violate the provisions of this bill (Sec. 3).
