Vote to pass a bill that extends the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Amendments Act of 2008 for 5 years.
- Extends certain provisions of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Amendments Act of 2008 from December 31, 2012 to December 31, 2017 including, but not limited to, the following provisions (Sec. 2):
- Authorizes the intelligence community to electronically target individuals who are “reasonably” believed to be located outside the United States in order to gain foreign intelligence information;
- Specifies that the intelligence community’s compliance with federal laws will be supervised by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court; and
- Authorizes the intelligence community to obtain relevant and pertinent information about certain individuals from an electronic communications service provider.
NOTE: THIS LEGISLATION NEEDED A THREE-FIFTHS MAJORITY VOTE TO PASS.
