Vote to pass a bill that prohibits discrimination by employers against unemployed job applicants.

Highlights:

• Prohibits employers from excluding applicants from consideration or the hiring process on the basis of the applicant's employment status (Sec. 1).

• Defines “employer” as the state, subdivision of the state, agent, or any person that employs or exercises control over the wages, hours, or working conditions of another individual (Sec. 1).

• Establishes the following penalties for employers who violate the provisions of this bill (Sec. 1):
• $1,000 for the first violation;
• $5,000 for the second violation; and
• $10,000 for each following violation.

• Authorizes employers, agencies, and Internet websites to do the following (Sec. 1):
• Obtain information regarding an individual's employment;
• Know an individual's employment status;
• Consider an individual's employment history; and
• Refuse employment due to underlying reasons for an individual's employment status.
