Title: Requires Proof of Citizenship for Presidential Candidates

Vote to pass a bill that requires presidential and vice-presidential candidates to provide proof of U.S. citizenship to appear on the Missouri ballot.

  • Requires the state chapter of each political party to provide the following information about the presidential and vice presidential candidates to the Missouri secretary of state in the form of the most complete record of birth that exists for the candidates (Sec. A):
    • Certification that provides verifiable evidence of identity; and
    • Proof of status as a "natural born citizen" of the United States for each nominee.
  • Defines “natural born citizen” as a person who was declared a citizen of the United States at birth or was declared a citizen of the United States under federal law as it existed at the time of his or her birth (Sec. A).
