Vote to pass a bill that prohibits employers from requiring employees to join or remain a member of a labor organization, effective January 1, 2013.

Highlights:

• Prohibits any person from being required, as a condition of employment or continuation of employment, to do the following (Sec. 1):
• Resign or refrain from voluntary membership in, voluntary affiliation with, or voluntary financial support of, a labor organization;
• Become or remain a member of a labor organization;
• Pay any dues, fees, assessments, or other charges of any kind or amount to a labor organization; or
• Be recommended, approved, referred, or cleared by or through a labor organization.

• Prohibits an employer from deducting any dues or other charges from an employee's wages to be paid to a labor organization without the written consent of the employee (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that no employee labor organization is required to represent employees who elect not to join or pay dues or fees to the employee labor organization (Sec. 3).
