Highlights:

  • Authorizes the use of “reasonable force” against any law enforcement officer if the person believes the force is necessary to (Sec. 1):
    • Protect any person from the imminent use of unlawful force;
    • Stop or prevent unlawful entry into an individual's household, the property surrounding the individual's home, or an occupied vehicle; or
    • Stop or prevent unlawful trespassing or theft of personal property.
  • Authorizes the use of deadly force against a law enforcement officer if the force is necessary to prevent serious bodily injury to any person and if the officer is acting unlawfully or not engaged in official police duties (Sec. 1).
  • Prohibits the use of force against a law enforcement officer if the person believes the officer is acting lawfully or executing official police duties (Sec. 1).
  • Prohibits an individual from using force against a law enforcement officer if the individual is engaged in any of the following activities (Sec. 1):
    • Committing a crime;
    • Escaping after committing a crime;
    • Provoking a law enforcement office with an intent to cause bodily harm; or
    • Initiating combat with a law enforcement officer and actively pursuing such combat.
