Vote to pass a bill that authorizes school districts to sell commercial advertising space on school buses.
Highlights:
Authorizes local boards of education to sell advertising space on the exterior of a school bus, so long as the advertisement does not interfere with the effectiveness of any required reflective, safety, or warning equipment (Sec. 1).
Prohibits the advertising of any of the following (Sec. 1):
“Sexually oriented businesses;”
Alcohol and tobacco products; or
Political or campaign advertising.
Defines “political or campaign advertising” as including, but not limited to, the following (Sec. 1):
In support or opposition to a candidate for public office;
In support or opposition to a public issue question that will appear on a voter ballot; or
Otherwise concerning the advocacy of a public policy issue.
Prohibits local boards of education from showing exclusive preference for specific advertisers (Sec. 1).
