Vote to pass a bill that prohibits qualified health plans from covering abortions.
Highlights:
Prohibits qualified health plans offered through the health insurance exchange from covering abortions (Sec. 2).
Defines “health insurance exchange” as an insurance system established to comply with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Sec 2).
Exempts abortions performed under the following circumstances from the provisions of this bill (Sec. 2):
The abortion is medically necessary in order to prevent the death of the mother, as certified by a physician;
The pregnancy was caused by rape, and such rape was reported by the victim to a law enforcement agency or, in the case of a minor, Children Protective Services; or
The pregnancy was caused by an act of incest, and such act was reported by the victim to a law enforcement agency or, in the case of a minor, Children Protective Services.
Authorizes individuals to purchase optional supplemental abortion coverage, provided that the individual pays a separate premium for the coverage and obtains the coverage outside of the health insurance exchange (Sec. 2).
Prohibits qualified health plans from excluding coverage for the following (Sec. 2):
