Title: School Year Minimum Hours Requirement

Vote to pass a bill that changes the minimum length requirements for a school year from 180 days for all grades to 999 hours of instructional time for grades 1 through 6 and 1,080 hours of instructional time for grades 7 through 12, effective July 1, 2008.

Highlights:

-Specifies that the following activities do not count as instructional time for the purposes of meeting the minimum hourly requirement: lunch, recess, noninstructional assemblies, late arrival or early dismissal related to emergency health or safety factors, weather-related late starts or early dismissals, and time used for professional development (Sec. 1). -Specifies that charter schools are also subject to the new minimum school year length requirements (Sec. 3).
