Title: Prohibiting the Sale of Shark Fins

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the sale, trade or possession of shark fins or tails.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits the possession, sale, trade, or distribution of shark fins or tails (Sec. 2). -Defines "shark fin" as any of the following (Sec. 2):
    • The raw, dried, or otherwise processed detached fin of a shark; or
    • The raw, dried, or otherwise processed detached tail of a shark.
  • Exempts individuals who hold a license or permit from the Department of Fish and Game to possess shark fins for scientific, educational, recreational, or commercial purposes from the provisions of this act (Sec. 2).
  • Authorizes restaurants to possess, sell, offer for sale, trade, or distribute shark fins possessed by that restaurant that are prepared for consumption until January 1, 2013 (Sec. 2).
