Vote to pass a bill that outlines the enforcement of state and federal immigration laws.

Highlights:

• Prohibits governing bodies, officers, employees, and district attorneys of municipalities, counties, or special districts from adopting any rule or policy that prohibits the enforcement of state or federal laws relating to immigration, including, but not limited to, prohibiting any person under their control from the following acts (Sec. 1):
• Inquiring into the immigration status of a person lawfully detained or arrested;
• Sending or requesting information from the Citizenship and Immigration Services or Immigration Customs Enforcement; and
• Assisting or cooperating with a federal immigration officer.

• Prohibits a peace officer from stopping a motor vehicle or conducting a search of a business or residence solely to enforce a federal immigration law, unless assisting a federal immigration officer (Sec. 3).

• Requires local law enforcement agencies to verify the immigration status of any individual that has been arrested and detained, as established by the federal Secure Communities program (Sec. 3).

• Requires applicants for personal identification certificates or driver's licenses to provide proof of United States citizenship, or documentation that they are authorized to be in the United States (Sec. 6 & 8).
