Vote to pass a bill that authorizes undocumented immigrants that meet certain requirements to be eligible for non-state financial aid for community and state colleges, effective January 1, 2012.

Highlights:

  • Requires financial aid under this act to be awarded only to students that meet the following criteria (Sec. 3):
    • Attend the University of California, California State University, or the California Community Colleges;
    • Attended high school in California for at least 3 years; -Graduated from a California high school or attained an equivalent degree;
    • Have filed affidavits stating they intend to gain lawful immigration status, if they are undocumented immigrants;
    • Demonstrate financial need; and
    • Are exempt from paying nonresident tuition rates at one of the above colleges.
  • Requires the scholarships awarded under the act to be derived from non-state funds (Sec. 3).
