Title: Special License Plates

Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill authorizing the creation of certain specialty license plates and appropriating profits earned from the sale of such license plates.

Highlights:

  • Requires the state to issue the "Don't Tread on Me" special plates if an entity receives and gives $32,000 to the state (Sec. 3). 
  • Establishes the Arizona Tea Party Committee which consists of the following five members who reside in the state and who are United States citizens (Sec. 3):
    • One member who is appointed by the president of the senate and who is director of an incorporated nonprofit corporation with a mission of bringing together, empowering and training tea party groups; 
    • Two members who are appointed by the president of the senate and who each represent an organization in this state that promotes the Tea Party governing principles of "fiscal responsibility, limited government, and free markets" where by one of the members must reside in a county with a population of more than 160,000 persons but less than 167,000 persons; and 
    • Two members who are appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and who each represent an organization in this state that promotes the Tea Party governing principles.
  • Requires the Tea Party Committee to (Sec. 3):
    • Distribute monies from the "Don't Tread on Me" license plates funds; 
    • Submit a written report to the governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the house; and 
    • Deliver a list of at least 2, but no more than 5, candidates to the President of the Speaker or the Speaker of the House within no later than 60 days of a seat's vacancy in order to fill the vacancy.
  • Prohibits members of the committee from receiving compensation or reimbursement expenses (Sec. 3). 
  • Authorizes the Arizona Tea Party Commission to administer the monies and fund of the "Don't Tread on Me" license plates in order to promote the Tea Party governing principles (Sec. 3).
