Vote to pass a bill that makes it a Class C misdemeanor to leave a child under the age of 9 unattended in an enclosed compartment of a motor vehicle.

Highlights:

• Specifies that it is a class C misdemeanor for a person who is responsible for a child under 9 years of age to intentionally, recklessly, knowingly, or with criminal negligence leave a child in an enclosed compartment of a motor vehicle if (Sec. 1):
• The motor vehicle is on public property or private property that is open to the general public; 
• The child is not supervised by a person who is at least 9 years old; and 
• Conditions place the child at risk of hyperthermia, hypothermia, or dehydration.

• Prohibits state or local government from using a conviction under this act as grounds for revoking, refusing to grant, or refusing to renew any license or permit, including permits related to the provision of day care or child care (Sec. 1).

Highlights:

• Specifies that it is an infraction for a person who is responsible for a child under 9 years of age to intentionally, recklessly, knowingly, or with criminal negligence leave a child in an enclosed compartment of a motor vehicle if (Sec. 1):
• The child is not supervised by a person who is at least 12 years old; and
• Conditions present a risk to the child's health or safety, the engine is running, or the keys are in the passenger compartment of the motor vehicle.
