Title: Loans for Development of Green Buildings

Vote to override a veto of a bill that requires the New Jersey Economic Development Authority and the Department of Community Affairs to establish and administer a program that makes low-interest loans available for the development of high performance green buildings.

Highlights:

  • Defines a "high performance green building" as a building with at least 15,000 square feet of floor area that achieves at least 1 of the following (Sec. 1):
    • A silver rating according to the United States Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System;
    • A silver rating according to the National Green Building Standards as adopted by the International Code Council and the American National Standards Institute;
    • A 2 globe rating according to the Green Building Institute's Green Globes Program; or
    • A comparable rating as designated by the Commissioner of Community Affairs.

NOTE: A TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY OF MEMBERS ELECTED IS REQUIRED TO OVERRIDE A GOVERNOR'S VETO.
