Title: School Calendar Committees

Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that requires each county superintendent to create a county school calendar committee, for the purpose of selecting school calendar options.

Highlights:

-Requires each county superintendent to create a county school calendar committee that meets the following criteria (Article 5):

    -Composed of at least 7, but no more than 11 members; -Composed of teachers, service personnel, administrators, and 2 members chosen by the county superindendent; and -Of the members chosen by the county superintendent, at least 1 should be a parent or guardian of a student enrolled in that district.
-Requires the calendar committee to do the following (Article 5):
    -Create 3 calendar options; and -Submit each calendar option to a county-wide vote of school employees.
-Requires the committee to generate new calendar options if the selected calendar option is rejected by the county board (Article 5). -Requires the county school board to approve a school calendar prior to June 1 each year (Article 5). -This is a substitute bill sponsored by the House Education Committee.
