Title: Eliminating General Assembly Scholarship Program

Vote to pass a bill establishing that no member of the General Assembly shall be permitted to nominate a person for a scholarship or certificate of scholarship after June 1, 2010.

Highlights:

-Establishes that after June 1, 2010 no person may be nominated to receive any one-year, 2-year, 4-year or other scholarship or certificate of scholarship by a member of the General Assembly nor may any scholarship be awarded after June 1, 2010, unless the person was nominated prior to that date to receive that scholarship (Sec. 30-9). -Requires that nominations made on or before June 1, 2010 must be filed with the State Superintendent of Education no later than the opening day of the semester or term with which the scholarship is to become effective (Sec. 30-10). -Requires that if a nominee fails to accept the nomination, a General Assembly member can make a replacement nomination on or before June 1, 2010 (Sec. 30-10). -Establishes that no nomination to an unused or unexpired scholarship is valid if made after June 1, 2010, and that it must be made on or before June 1, 2010 or it shall be deemed to have lapsed by operation of law (Sec. 30-11). -Establishes that this act will take effect upon becoming a law (Sec. 99).
