Title: Texting While Driving Ban
Vote to adopt a conference report that bans a person from writing, sending, or reading text-messages while driving a vehicle.
-Prohibits a person issued a restricted license, an instruction permit, an intermediate driver's license, or a special minors' license from using an electronic communication device or an electronic entertainment device while driving (Secs. 1-3). -Requires police officers to only issue warnings for violations of the aforementioned provisions for the period from July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011 (Sec. 1). -Exempts the following people from the ban on reading a text message (Sec. 6):

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits a person from using a hand-held electronic communication device to write or send a text message while driving.
-Specifies that a person is not sending a text message when using a global positioning system or navigation, selecting or entering a telephone number for the purpose of a call, or turning on or off the mobile telephone (Sec. 2). -Prohibits a police officer from confiscating a mobile telephone from the driver or occupant of a motor vehicle (Sec. 2). -Requires that police officers issue only warning citations for violations for the period beginning July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011 (Sec. 2). -Specifies that a person convicted of violating such act is guilty of a simple misdemeanor and fined $30 (Sec. 5).
