Title: Novelty Lighter Ban

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the sale, offer for retail, or distribution for retail sale of promotion in the state of Mississippi of novelty lighters beginning July 1, 2010.

Highlights:

-Defines "novelty lighter" as a lighter which resembles a cartoon character, toy, gun, watch, musical instruments, vehicle, animal, food or beverage, or similar articles, or that plays musical notes, or has flashing lights for entertainment or has other entertaining features (Sec. 1). -Specifies that violation of this act is a civil violation for which a fine of not more than $500 may be imposed (Sec. 2). -Specifies that this act does not apply to the transportation of novelty lighters through the state of Mississippi or the storage of novelty lighters in a warehouse or distribution center that is closed to the public for purposes of retail sales (Sec. 3).
