Title: Sex Education Curriculum Requirements
Vote to pass a bill that requires that if a school board chooses to provide human growth and development instruction, it shall address the health benefits, side effects, and proper use of contraceptives and barrier methods approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to prevent pregnancy and barrier methods approved by the FDA to prevent sexually transmitted diseases.
-Requires a school board that provides an instructional program in human growth and development to, when "age-appropriate," instruct pupils about the criminal penalties for engaging in sexual activities involving a child and sex offender registration requirements (Sec. 5t). -Exempts pupils from human growth and development courses if their parent of guardian files a written request for such an exemption (Sec. 9m).
