Title: School District Budget Requirements

Vote to pass a bill that requires a school district to use any amount of its unexpended fund balance that exceeds "the amount necessary for operations," as determined by the School Budget Review Committee, instead of levying property taxes.

Highlights:

-Requires the Department of Management to do the following (Sec. 7):

    -Until June 30, 2012, to limit school district cash reserves to a level that is not excessive as determined by the School Budget Review Committee; and -For fiscal years beginning on or after July 1, 2012, to limit school district cash reserves to a level that does not exceed 20 percent of the general fund expenditures for the year previous to the base year minus the unexpended fund balance for the year previous to the base year and is not excessive as determined by the School Budget Review Committee.
