U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) today attended a marriage equality rally in front of the Supreme Court of the United States and reaffirmed his support for gay marriage. In 2013, Senator Kirk expressed his support for gay marriage.

"Life comes down to who you love, and who loves you. Government has no role to play in that," Senator Kirk said. "The legacy of Abraham Lincoln is that the only way to solve a freedom problem is to provide more freedom to people. As the party of Lincoln, we must stand for equality and freedom."

Oral arguments began today in the Supreme Court regarding whether or not the Constitution requires states to issue marriage licenses for individuals of the same sex, and whether states are required to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.
