Martin Luther King III Meets With Hoyer's Democratic Whip Task Force on Poverty, Income Inequality, and Opportunity

On Wednesday, July 8, Martin Luther King III, son of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King and President of Drum Major Institute, met with Congressman Steny Hoyer's Democratic Whip Task Force on Poverty, Income Inequality, and Opportunity. They discussed ways to reduce poverty and promote private investment in developing a more competitive workforce in disadvantaged areas during the meeting. Mr. King traveled from Atlanta to share with members of the Task Force his Realize the Dream plan to build partnerships between organizations and programs focusing on poverty alleviation. The Task Force was created by Congressman Hoyer in 2013 to raise the awareness of Members of Congress and the American people about the ongoing crisis of poverty. This is the Task Force's third meeting since the 114th Congress convened.

"Our Task Force was honored to have Mr. King join us today to speak about his father's legacy and his own work to carry that legacy forward," stated Congressman Steny Hoyer. "We continue to search for innovative ways to promote opportunity and reduce poverty, and we appreciated hearing Mr. King's insights from his many years as an advocate and organizational leader.
