Reforming Education, Creating Opportunity

Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement today regarding House passage of the Student Success Act (H.R.-5):

"Today the House passed strong, conservative reforms to improve K-12 education by reining in the Department of Education and empowering parents -- not Washington bureaucrats -- to make the best decisions for their children's education," Scalise said. "The Student Success Act offers families greater school choice, helps local schools provide all our children with a first-class education, and stops the federal government from forcing states to adopt programs like Common Core. In the New Orleans area, we have served as the model for how to transform a failed urban education system by empowering parents with more choices, and I am proud that we are leading the way for the rest of the nation in ensuring that our children are prepared to seize the limitless opportunities they deserve to achieve the American Dream."
