Rep. Mimi Walters Cosponsors California Drought Legislation

Press Release

Date: June 30, 2015
Location: Washington D.C.
Issues: Environment

U.S. Representative Mimi Walters (CA-45) today released the following statement after signing on as an original cosponsor of Rep. David Valadao's (CA-21) bill, the Western Water and American Food Security Act of 2015 (H.R. 2898). This legislation seeks to modernize water polices in California and bordering Western states by prioritizing families, farmers, and communities in California over certain species of fish listed under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

Said Rep. Mimi Walters, "As a result of failed Democratic policies, California is facing a devastating water crisis that is harming businesses and communities across the state. While we cannot control drought conditions, we can control our water storage capabilities that will help us properly prepare and equip in the event of future rain shortages. This bipartisan legislation aims to address this problem by reining in cumbersome government regulations that wrongly prioritize delta smelt over Californian families."
