The OPM Has Demonstrated the Height of Incompetence

Statement

Date: July 9, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement calling on the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director, Katherine Archuleta, to resign:

"Over the past few weeks, news of the OPM data breach has gone from bad, to worse, to absolutely inexplicable. Not only does this data breach compromise sensitive personal information and threaten our national security, today's announcement shows OPM was completely unaware of the scope of what was stolen in the first place, which begs the question as to the competence of past, current, and future cybersecurity measures OPM has recommended and is implementing. Public trust in how our government is run is already low, and any resolution to this massive data breach and theft can only happen with new leadership at the OPM immediately. Only with new leadership can we get a full accounting of what happened and, most importantly, how to prevent this from ever happening again."
