Issue Position: Reducing Spending and Debt

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2015

The size and scope of government has become far too large and is costing taxpayers a great deal of money while contributing to rampant waste, fraud and abuse. The national debt has eclipsed $18 trillion which is equivalent to $56,000 for every man, woman, and child in America. This mounting debt drains our economy, crushes our job creators, and burdens middle class families.

In order to get our economy back on track, we must rein in federal spending. It would be immoral to stick future generations with the bill for Washington's recklessness. We must address our fiscal problems now.

As your Congressman, I will fight to cut wasteful spending, advocate for lower taxes, and reduce the red tape and regulations that are strangling this economy.

The first piece of legislation I introduced this Congress as part of my ongoing initiative, Operation TAXPAYER, would require every proposed bill to undergo a "duplication score", to determine if a similar program the bill creates already exists.

I joined the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee in introducing a bill that would amend the constitution to require Congress to balance the federal budget every year. Hard working American families are required to live within their means and balance their own budgets, Washington should live up to the same standards.

It is critical to our long term economic health that we rein in spending and balance our budget. We will begin to see our debt reduced only when we stop spending money we do not have.

Billions of taxpayer dollars are spent on wasteful and duplicative government programs, and it is crucial we reform the way our federal government spends your money.

I will continue to fight for a more fiscally responsible government while meeting our obligations to all citizens.
