Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Mark Takai (HI-01) released the following statement after he was named Ranking Member of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Contracting and the Workforce by the Democratic Leadership to kick off National Small Business Week:

"I am thankful for my colleagues in the House for providing me the opportunity to serve as the Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Contracting and the Workforce. Through my position on this subcommittee, I will better be situated to advocate for policies that help small businesses cut through the red tape when working with the Federal Government. Around 90 percent of the businesses in Hawaii are small businesses, and as a former small businessman I know the challenges that face these hard working Americans on an everyday basis," Takai said.

The Small Business Subcommittee on Contracting and the Workforce holds jurisdiction over the federal procurement system and programs designed to provide assistance to small businesses. The subcommittee is also responsible for oversight over all contracting programs established by the Small Business Act, including HUBZone, 8(a), Women-Owned Small Business, and Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business Programs.

"As we kick off National Small Business Week, I pledge to use my seat on this committee to make things easier for small businesses. I know that when small business succeeds, our economy succeeds. I look forward to using this position to ensure that the small business community in Hawaii thrives," Takai added.

Takai was also granted a second assignment to the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Energy, and Trade for his tenure on the House Committee on Small Business.
