Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) released the following statement regarding the recent shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina:
"Simply put--this horrific massacre goes beyond the realm of reason and comprehension. Once again, a racially charged and horribly violent act has reopened a deep tear in the fabric of our society. As Dr. King so aptly put it; "We must learn to live together as brothers and sisters or we are going to perish together as fools.' Truly, we must work together to ensure that these horrific occurrences of violence become a thing of the past in our great country. My heart and prayers go out to the families, the communities, and millions in our nation grappling with the impact of racism day in and day out. I ask that you to continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Charleston as we all strive to heal from the wounds induced by this most recent atrocity."
