U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement on the U.S. Navy's announcement of the first group of enlisted female sailors selected for assignment to a submarine:

"I offer my congratulations to each of the 38 enlisted female sailors who will train to be the first enlisted women to report for duty aboard a submarine. Brave American women have rendered selfless service in our nation's armed services, many giving their lives in combat. These sailors are taking another important step forward to advance this proud tradition."
