U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor's Statement on Gov. Scott's Visit to Washington D.C.

Press Release

Date: May 6, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor released the following statement following Florida Gov. Rick Scott's visit to Washington D.C.:

"The most fiscally-responsible course of action is to bring Florida tax dollars back to Florida for Medicaid expansion and not let our tax dollars languish in Washington, D.C. Gov. Rick Scott's meeting with HHS Secretary Burwell is no substitute for action in Tallahassee to resolve the budget impasse - a train wreck that is largely of his own making.

"The Florida LIP is a fairly unique provision of Florida's federally-approved Medicaid waiver and is greatly in need of reform as it is not the most cost-efficient and effective way to serve our neighbors. Medicaid expansion does what LIP does in a direct and effective way. CMS has been open and involved in discussions with Florida policy-makers over the needed reform of LIP for years.

"But Gov. Scott has failed to address the matter in a fiscally-responsible way and is caught in his own ideological trap that now is causing harm to Florida. He should stop going everywhere and looking to everyone else to fix Florida's problems. He should stay in Tallahassee and work with the Senate to put Florida's tax dollars to work for Floridians"
