Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)'s announcement they are phasing out trans fat in food.
"Today's announcement is a great step in the battle against heart disease, particularly heart attacks, which threaten Americans' quality of life and contributes to thousands of lives being cut short prematurely. Local efforts blazed a trail for this decision, but there is no substitute for a nationwide standard. Ridding our food of dangerous, unnecessary artificial trans fats will save lives and I applaud the FDA for taking this step."
