Governor McCrory to Testify Before U.S. House Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee

Governor Pat McCrory will testify before the U.S. House Natural Resources Committee Energy and Mineral Land Resources Subcommittee hearing titled "Examining the Future Impacts of President Obama's Offshore Energy Plan" on Wednesday.

"Harnessing America's offshore energy reserves in an environmentally safe and responsible manner will lead to greater energy independence and economic prosperity for North Carolina and the entire nation," said Governor McCrory. "It is a great honor to speak on behalf of the great State of North Carolina on this important issue."

Governor McCrory's testimony will convey his support for the inclusion of at least one lease sale in the Mid and South Atlantic in the next Five-Year Program for offshore oil and gas leasing, exploration and development. Opening the Atlantic to energy production is part of the all-of-the-above energy platform McCrory campaigned on as a candidate and has continued to pursue as governor.

Governor McCrory is working closely with the federal government, other coastal governors, local elected officials and residents to determine how to advance responsible offshore energy exploration in a way that protects our coastal resources, mitigates use conflicts, creates jobs and improves the economy. McCrory believes equitable revenue sharing with coastal energy states is a necessary component of responsible offshore energy development. He currently serves as Chairman of the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Governors Coalition, a bipartisan group of coastal governors that promotes constructive dialogue on offshore energy resource planning and development between state and the federal governments.
