Pearce Receives Manufacturing Legislative Excellence Award

Statement

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has awarded U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce (NM-02) the NAM Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence. The award is based on his votes in the 113th Congress on issues that are critical to manufacturing in the United States.

"Manufacturers in New Mexico and throughout the United States are making a comeback, creating jobs, making more products and making them better than ever before," said NAM Senior Vice President of Policy and Government Relations Aric Newhouse. "However, manufacturers are often disproportionately impacted by decisions made by policymakers in Washington. The NAM is proud to stand with lawmakers like Rep. Pearce who understand what is at stake and seek to implement policies that will foster innovation, growth and competitiveness."

"I am humbled and honored by this award. Our manufacturing industry is critical to creating good-paying jobs and helping to build a healthy economy," stated Pearce. "I'd like to thank the Mosaic Company for their work in New Mexico to spur agricultural innovation. It is a privilege to work side-by-side with Mosaic and other manufacturers to expand opportunities in this critical sector. We have passed legislation, for example, to cut taxes for small businesses, and to increase transparency and efficiency within the EPA by reducing lengthy permitting delays for manufacturing facilities. I am proud to stand with our manufacturers and will continue to fight to bring "Made in America' products and services to global markets."

The award was presented yesterday in Carlsbad, N.M., by the Mosaic Company. Mosaic operates one potash mine in New Mexico, located approximately 25 miles east of Carlsbad.

"New Mexico manufacturers appreciate the work Congressman Pearce is doing to help strengthen our manufacturing base and to create jobs in our communities," said Don Purvis, General Manager at the Mosaic Company's Carlsbad facility.

In 2014, there were 27,200 manufacturing employees in New Mexico. Total output in 2013 was $5.61 billion and the average employee compensation that year was $58,066.
