If we want our children to enjoy a good quality of life my third plank is Good Jobs. In our community we have been blessed to understand the importance of continued recruitment of industry and small business to replenish the constant churn, the loss of businesses and the replacement of those jobs with new businesses. As a former member of the CDF Board of Directors I was made acutely aware that our community must be constantly in the recruitment mode. To prevent a net loss in the number of jobs we must have a plan to encourage the location of new industry to our locale, to encourage small businesses to set up shop in our area. I am proud to say we have such a plan in place and people are working that plan. The prize recruitment of the Toyota plant and its subsequent suppliers has been a boon for our area. Workers are enjoying a higher quality of life for themselves and their children. But just as one plant opens another plant may be closing down. In the recent past we have seen Toyota open its doors and one of our largest furniture manufacturers, Action Lane Furniture close. What is the key to the recruitment of industry and good jobs? The resounding response from the professionals in industrial recruitment, from the corporate heads, is an educated workforce. And so we come full circle. What do we want for our children? A good quality of life that begins with a good education, good health and a good job.
