U.S. Rep. McSally "We can End Human Trafficking"

Press Release

Date: May 19, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Martha McSally today voted in support of legislation to help stop human trafficking and support trafficking victims. The legislation, the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act (S.178), combines provisions from 10 human trafficking bills passed by the House earlier this year, including four bills that Rep. McSally cosponsored.

"By working together, we can end human trafficking," said Rep. McSally. "Today, we're sending the President a bill that will strengthen tools for law enforcement, provide additional protections and assistance for victims, increase coordination between local, state, and federal resources, and much more. This terrible crime will not be eradicated overnight, but as today's legislation shows, our efforts to work together can make a difference. I'll continue working with my colleagues and local leaders to help victims in our community and, ultimately, stop trafficking once and for all."

Since being elected to office, Rep. McSally has placed a strong focus on efforts to combat trafficking. On January 31, she held a roundtable with local elected officials, members of law enforcement, and non-profit leaders on ways the community can work together to stop trafficking in Southern Arizona. On February 17, she joined Pima County Supervisor Ally Miller to declare Pima County a "Zero Tolerance Human Trafficking Zone." She also has spoken on the House floor in support of legislation to punish offenders who facilitate trafficking of victims online.
