Elected leaders in Congress must have the final say on a nuclear deal with Iran, U.S. Representative Martha Roby (R-AL) said Tuesday.

Rep. Roby, who recently returned from a Middle East trip focused in part on ensuring Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon, took exception to the false choices being portrayed by the Obama Administration.

"Look, President Obama is presenting this as if the only choices are his deal or war with Iran. That is absolutely false," Rep. Roby said in a look-live video interview.

"Nobody wants war with Iran, but we have to show strength at the negotiating table, especially dealing with a country whose leaders have declared "Death to America.'

"We can't accept a deal in which Iran gets pretty much everything it wants and we get almost nothing we set out for. And, if you measure the framework by President Obama's own stated goals two years ago, there is no question we missed the mark.

"We are working on legislation that would require any such deal to be approved by Congress. It should be that way to begin with, but this legislation from Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee would put more teeth into Congressional review. Of course, to make it law we need enough votes to override a presidential veto, but based on what I've heard about the bi-partisan support that is building, we aren't far off.

"This Iran situation is so important. We cannot risk the long term security of this country and our friends just because President Obama wants a legacy deal in the short term."
