Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman David B. McKinley, P.E., (WV-1) defeated five amendments to a government spending bill that would have crippled coal and natural gas research at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL).

"Once again, we've been successful in fighting off attempts to undermine this important research," McKinley said.

Rep. McKinley also passed a bipartisan amendment to ensure NETL is not closed or moved out of Morgantown.

"The work NETL is doing on issues like carbon capture and increasing the yield of shale gas exploration is not only vital to the future of coal and gas in this country, it's vital to the local economy and the growth of West Virginia University," said McKinley.

"NETL plays an important role in strengthening our national security and moving the nation towards energy independence. It is now time for the Senate to do the same and fund this important research," McKinley added.
