Obamacare at Five Years Fails Taxpayers and Patients

With the President expected to speak today about the fifth anniversary of his signature domestic policy, Obamacare, Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) said rhetoric from the Administration praising the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act omits the law's devastating consequences and broken promises to American taxpayers and patients:

"The Obama Administration continues to point to enrollment numbers as a sign of success, as if saying that patients that bought insurance under the threat of a penalty is cause for celebration," Hatch said. "But what they fail to mention is how the law has failed to attack rising health costs and caused widespread frustration and confusion for American families. Even today -- five years later - the consequences of the law's flawed provisions continue to haunt patients on exchanges as they try to deal with Obamacare during tax season. Patients and taxpayers would be better served with an honest look at how the law is wasting billions of dollars and breaking promises, and how to move away from Obamacare and towards a fiscally-responsible healthcare system that puts patients first."

Chairman Hatch is a coauthor of the Patient CARE Act, a legislative blueprint to repeal and replace Obamacare. Hatch held a hearing to examine Obamacare's waste and broken promises at five years on Thursday, March 19, 2015, and released five fact sheets detailing the law's harmful effects on taxpayers and patients.
