Minnesota Congressman John Kline issued the following statement tonight after the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation extending funding for the Department of Homeland Security for one week:
"Minnesotans recognize unilateral action taken by the President on immigration was a brazen disregard of the Constitutional limits of his office -- the President himself said 22 times he did not have the authority to ignore or create his own immigration law -- however, Senate Democrats have chosen to excuse this overreach going so far as to block funding for the Department of Homeland Security to prevent efforts to reign in the President's actions. I remain committed to fighting the President's egregious overreach, but two wrongs don't make a right and Congress must not ignore our Constitutional responsibility to fund our government, and protect and defend our country. While an one week extension is not a solution, I supported this bill to ensure efforts to secure our communities and nation continue.
